Usually
against notrump contracts, though some play it against suit
contracts. Purpose is to promise 2 higher cards (honors) or deny any higher
cards.
Honors are: 10, J, Q, K and Ace.
Used
when you have:
 |
Any two honors higher than the card lead with an interior sequence, or
|
 |
A sequence with nothing above it.
|
Leading the 9:
 |
The
lead of a Nine promises the Ten plus another non-consecutive higher-ranking
honor, or |
 |
Shows
top of a sequence without a higher-ranking honor. |
Leading the 10:
 |
The
lead of a Ten promises the Jack plus another non-consecutive higher-ranking
honor, or |
 |
Shows
top of a sequence without a higher-ranking honor. |
