When opener opens with a weak two-bid or a preemptive 3-bid. Responder’s 4C (or 4D) is a keycard asking bid. Responder has slam interest in opener’s suit. Purpose is to inquire about opener’s key cards without the risk of passing the five-level with only 11 tricks.

  1. If partner opens with a weak-two bid, you must first bid 2NT. After partner’s rebid, you make a rebid of 4C.

  2. If partner opens with a three-bid, you respond with 4C (if partner’s suit is clubs then you bid 4D).
