Flannery (2D or 2H)

The hand is opened with 2D (or 2H).

 

Used with intermediate hands (11 - 15 points) with  5 hearts & 4 spades. Purpose is to show both majors without “reversing”.

An immediate 2H (over 2D) or 2S (over 2H) are signoffs, may or may not be good trump support.

3NT is a signoff.

4H or 4S are signoffs.

4C and 4D are transfer to 4H and 4S to allow opener to play the hand.

 

B. Defense To Flannery

B1. When Opponents Open 2D As Flannery

Double indicates a diamond suit. Partner should continue as if you had overcalled 2D over 1H.

2H is a  three-suit takeout double. Same as making a takeout double over a 1H opening bid.

2S is a minor-suit takeout.

bullet

2NT is natural. Same as if you would have overcalled 1NT over 1H.

All other bids are natural in meaning.

B2. When Opponents Open 2H As Flannery

Double is a three-suit takeout double. Same as making a takeout double over a 1H opening bid.

2S is a minor-suit takeout.

2NT is natural. Same as if you would have overcalled 1NT over 1H.
