Used in an auction when the opponents are not bidding. The bid of the fourth suit is artificial and forcing.

If the fourth suit is bid at the one-level ...... [ 1C  Pass  1D  Pass ] : [ 1H  Pass  1S  ]

bullet

It is not necessarily game forcing.

bullet

It is forcing at least to the three-level of a minor suit or to 2NT.

If the fourth suit is bid at the two-level ..... [ 1D  Pass  1H  Pass ] : [ 1S  Pass  2C  ]

bullet

It is forcing to game, although the bidding might rarely stop at a four-level minor suit contract.

Opener’s Responses:

bullet

2NT = Stopper in 4th suit

bullet

2 of responder’s suit (whether major or minor) = 3-card support

bullet

Raise of 4th suit = 4 cards in that suit (no honors required)

bullet

Rebid 2nd suit = 5-5 or better

bullet

Rebid 1st suit = neutral and waiting (doesn’t promise additional length)
