"Odd/Even" Carding

Note: No need to alert opponents for this carding convention, but your convention card should indicate this agreement.

 

First opportunity to discard. Usually played only against notrump contracts. Some partnerships use it also against suit contracts. Similar to Lavinthal. Purpose is to indicate what suit you like.

Discarding an odd card shows preference for that suit.

Discarding an low even card shows preference for the lower-ranking side suit.

bullet

Discarding a high even card shows preference for the higher ranking side suit.
