Used when partner opens with a Weak Two-Bid. You need to know the strength of the hand and the quality of the suit. You bid 2NT asking partner to describe his hand.

 

Opener's Suit Quality:

bullet

A "good" suit will have 2 of the top three honors.

bullet

A “bad” suit will have 1 of the top three honors.

Opener's Hand Strength:

bullet

A “good” hand will have a good 8 to a bad 10 HCP.

bullet

A “bad” hand will have 5 to a bad 8 HCP

 

Partner will make one of the following bids:

bullet

3C   = weak hand, weak suit (only 1 top honor, 5 to a bad 8 HCP)

bullet

3D   = weak hand, good suit (2 top honors, 5 to a bad 8 HCP)

bullet

3H   = good hand, weak suit (only 1 top honor, a good 8 to a bad 10 HCP)

bullet

3S   = good hand, good suit (2 top honors, a good 8 to a bad 10 HCP)

bullet

3NT = Solid suit (top three honors, i.e., AKQxxx)

 

Partnership may incorporate 4C Roman Key Card to ask for controls. To use RKC responder first starts with 2NT. After opener rebids, the responder bids 4C which asks for controls. See “Roman Keycard – 4C”.
