Used when strong 1NT is opened or 1NT is overcalled by a non-passed hand (but not in the balancing seat).

Can be used at the 1NT level in conjunction with Puppet Stayman. If both Stayman and Puppet Stayman are used:

Use Stayman for invitational hands - bid 2C over 1NT

bullet

Use Puppet Stayman for game-going hands - bid 3C over 1NT

bullet

Opener bids 2C then rebids 2NT.

bullet

Used in conjunction with Smolen

bullet

Used in conjunction with Jacoby and Texas Transfers.

bullet

System on over opponent’s takeout double.

bullet

System off over opponent’s overcall (use Lebensohl here).

Responder’s Requirements

Shape:

At least 1 four-card major and some ruffing potential (not 4/3/3/3 shape).

Not with 1 five- or six-card major (use Jacoby or Texas transfers here).

4/4 in the majors

bullet

5/4 in the majors without slam interest and with or without Smolen (with slam interest use Jacoby transfers).

bullet

Not 5/5, 6/5 or 6/4 (use Jacoby or Texas transfers here).

Point Count:

A minimum of 8 HCP.

bullet

Exception:   Jxxx   Txxx   Jxxx   x………pass whatever opener rebids.

 

Responder’s Rebids (Similar bids if Stayman is used when 2NT is opened)

Opener has answered 2D and responder then bids:

Pass   = Bust with   Jxxx   Txxx   Jxxx   x

2NT     = Invites 3NT

bullet

3H       = Smolen (if Smolen not used, 3H is not a valid bid)

3S       = Smolen (if Smolen not used, 3S is not a valid bid)

3NT     = Signoff

4C       = Gerber

4NT     = Quantitative

6NT     = Signoff

Opener has answered 2H or 2S and responder then bids:
