Used when strong 1NT is opened or 1NT is overcalled by a non-passed hand (but not in the balancing seat). Convention is on over opponent’s takeout double, off if opponent overcalls.

Used when 2NT is opened (20 to a “bad” 22 HCP) or 2C is opened and opener rebids 2NT (22 to 24 HCP). Convention is off over any interference.

Used in conjunction with Jacoby Transfers.

 

 

Responder's Requirements

Shape:

One major suit with 6 or more cards, game-going hand with or without slam interest.

bullet

6/4 in the majors, no slam interest (with slam interest use Jacoby transfers).

bullet

6/5 in the majors, no slam interest (with slam interest use Jacoby transfers).

Point Count:

bullet

At least a game going hand.

Responder’s Ranges of Interest for 1NT opener:

Game-Going: 10 or more.

bullet

Slam Interest: 15 or more.

Responder’s Ranges of Interest for 2NT opener:

Game-Going: A good 5 or more.

Slam Interest: A good 11 or more.
